Terms of service

The deal between you and us, in plain words. Free stays free, updates are free for everyone, and you can cancel Pro any time.

What Stenvakt is

Stenvakt is a Mac app that reviews, watches and patches Linux servers you are responsible for, over SSH from your Mac. Reviews only read. Changes are shown to you before they run, and the ones that could lock you out run in safe mode: a snapshot, an automatic rollback timer and a test over a fresh connection.

Most of Stenvakt installs nothing on your servers beyond what you choose to run (for example fail2ban or automatic security updates). Two Pro features, the intruder guard and the login guard, put small scripts on the server when you turn them on; turning them off removes them.

You may only use Stenvakt on servers you own or are allowed to administer.

Free and Pro

Your account

You need an account only for Pro. Sign-in is handled by our sign-in provider (WorkOS); we never see your password. Keep your sign-in safe and use two-step sign-in or a passkey. You can link Macs to your account and unlink them at any time. The app never sends us your servers' names, addresses, keys or logs; the privacy page says what is kept.

Prices and payment

Prices are in euros, and the price you see is the price you pay. We are not in the VAT system (Article 90(2) of the Croatian VAT Act), so no VAT is charged. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see your full card number. Every payment gets a receipt, fiscalized as Croatian law requires.

Trials, renewal and cancelling

The app has a 14-day Pro trial on first launch that needs no account. Monthly and yearly plans also start with a 14-day free trial, once per account. Cancel during the trial and you are not charged; otherwise the plan starts when the trial ends.

Subscriptions renew at the end of each period until you cancel. Cancel any time on your account's Billing page: Pro keeps working to the end of the period you paid for, and you are not charged again. For yearly plans we email you about 7 days before a trial turns paid and before each renewal.

Changed your mind about a payment? Email us within 14 days of it and we refund it in full. The refunds page has the details and your legal right of withdrawal.

Lifetime

Lifetime is a one-time payment for Pro with no renewals, for as long as Stenvakt exists, including every update. If we ever stop, we tell lifetime owners by email at least 90 days before, and we first release a final version of the app with Pro unlocked that works without our servers. Pro features that need our always-on service run for as long as we operate it.

Your servers

Stenvakt changes servers on your instruction, or on an agent's proposal that you approve. Safe mode lowers the risk of a change but cannot remove it. Keep your own backups, read what a change does in Preview before you run it, and keep a way into your servers that does not depend on Stenvakt (your host's console, for example).

Liability

We are fully liable for damage we cause on purpose or through gross negligence, and for injury to life, body or health. For other damage, we are liable only where we break an obligation that is essential to these terms, and then only for the damage that was typical and foreseeable when you started using Stenvakt; for paid plans this is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the damage. We are not liable for loss of data you could have avoided with your own backups. None of this limits your rights as a consumer under the law.

Ending and changes

You can stop using Stenvakt and have your account deleted at any time, in the account area or by email. We may close an account used against these terms (for example to attack servers you do not run), and we tell you why where the law allows.

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we email you at least 30 days before. Changes never take away what Free includes and never remove free updates. If you do not agree, you can cancel before the change applies.

Law, complaints and disputes

Croatian law applies. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live, and you can take a claim to the courts there; otherwise the courts in Zagreb decide.
